The Ero Guro Horror Art of Shintaro Kago

Shintaro Kago (駕籠 真太郎 Kago Shintarō, born 1969), is a Japanese guro manga artist. He debuted in 1988 on the magazine COMIC BOX. Kago's style has been called "fashionable paranoia". He has been published in several adult manga magazines, gaining him considerable popularity. Many of his manga have strongly satirical overtones, and deal with grotesque subjects such as extreme sex, scatology and body modification. He has also written Sci-Fi non-guro manga, most notably Super-Conductive Brains Parataxis (超伝脳パラタクシス Choutennou Paratakushisu) for Weekly Young Jump. Many of his shorts are experimental and bizarre. He frequently breaks the fourth wall, and he likes to play with the page layout in extreme ways, mostly for comedic effect

ESCAPE INTO REALITY (WHAT DOES A PAINTING THINK?) by Michal Trpak

ESCAPE INTO REALITY (WHAT DOES A PAINTING THINK?)
(2007, Cement, Acrylic, Wood)

Escape into reality is a combination of a painting, a relief and a sculpture, it outlines a transition between real and virtual world, between 2d and 3d form, between sensed and tangible ... Is it possible for a form to be able to think something or convey a message...and if there is no direct message, is it possible for it to contemplate itself? Reflection on fine art which finds in a situation when it tries shocking in order to be spotted or makes an effort to walk out to reach a looker – on in the streets because an onlooker tends to attend galleries still less and less frequently. This way galleries, except the most prestigious ones, become sort of "art cemeteries" where only the relatives or closest ones come to see it. What in fact an art is and where its boundaries are if there are any? Art used to be rather craft in past, more than anything else... Only the last century upgraded artists and attributed particular magical secrecy and nobleness to them... Art tries to be new and discovering, so is an artist a scientist or an inventor? Modern art is a conceptual one and it can seldom defend itself, so does it make an artist a rhetorician or a philosopher? If art needs a form to convey an idea, should an artist be a skillful craftsman? If art is supposed to be digital, is an artist due to be an expert on information technologies? Is an artist a diplomat or a strategist who can present nothing like something and make the viewers believe in it? Who actually is still an artist and who is not? As long as an artist can be all and exercise anything, why everybody is not an artist? Will any object become a piece of art being exhibited in a gallery and will a person who places an object in a gallery become an artist? What is then the purpose of art? – To convey an idea or draw attention by means of a special, ingenious or more sophisticated form to things around us? Or should art be made use of as an aesthetic supplement and is more likely to be the design? If art is supposed to be another form of communication, does it need any commentary? Or – is art something what is useless and that´s why there are galleries to make it usable? As it is difficult to find a boundary between real and virtual, it is impossible to limit the art. I don´t know what a painting thinks about itself if it does think anything at all, nor I know if form is important for art. Supposing there is no form, energy, which can be turned into form, remains ......... Boundaries don´t exist...............

INHERITANCE by Illustrator & Concept Artist Maria Tiurina

INHERITANCE (2013, Ink and Watercolor)
by London-based Illustrator and Concept Artist, Maria Tiurina

"An illustration I did for INDIE magazine’s anniversary issue. The theme was “The Ten Commandments” and the one I’ve picked was #4 – “Honour thy father and thy mother”. I took the subject of inheritance literally, which added… uhm.. some gore to the meaning."

Nicomi Nix Turner THE DYING THOUGHT at Last Rites Gallery NYC

“The Dying Thought”  Graphite, oil, wax and resin on paper mounted to panel  36” x 48”

Opening July 8th, 2017 at Last Rites Gallery in NYC; Nicomi Nix Turner 's latest solo exhibition “The Dying Thought” features a new series of charcoal drawings which examine symbols of  dominion among Man.

“The Division”  Graphite, oil, wax and resin on paper mounted to panel  20” x 30”

“The pieces I create reflect subject matters pertaining to biological deconstructionism, nature’s legacy, alchemy, fables and counter-religious belief. In an orchestra of hyper-textured saturation, each piece is a cacophony of silent movement and erratic soliloquies.”

Jesse Draxler TIRE FIRE at Booth Gallery NYC

On Saturday, July 8th, 2017, Booth Gallery presents Jesse Draxler in his first exhibition comprised solely of drawings entitled, “Tire Fire”. The exhibition is a culmination of new works, which presented new challenges and required genuine self-exploration in order to find where a focus on the medium would take him.

“Where I was drawing from within became much more important than what I was drawing. I felt I had little control over how I was drawing, in what style, or if I was able to draw in a self-satisfying manner that day at all. I learned to recognize these things and work with them, rather than to struggle against. To draw intuitively when I could, and when I couldn’t, to work on the Tower installation instead. Walking away plays a big role in my practice.”

Grace Lang "TRUE CUTS" at Gristle Gallery, Brooklyn NY

Contemporary Artist and Illustrator, Grace Lang brings her colorful, dreamscape of strong female warriors and demonic beasts to Brooklyn's Gristle Gallery in her solo exhibition; True Cuts. “True Cuts” refers to the most vulnerable parts of us, the places where our insides creep out through the skin. The cut, or wound, has long been an important image in Grace’s work both for its immediate visual impact and its metaphoric possibilities. Instantly recognized, a cut is a tangible visual representation of experienced pain. The evolution of a wound into a scab into a scar has a clear parallel with the process of living through and healing from a difficult experience. Requiring time and care to heal properly, the scar is quite literally evidence of personal maturation. The internal forces its way out and the external world rebuilds the skin as best it can, leaving a piece of us forever altered. On our bodies and on our psyches, “True Cuts” are the most pure and cathartic memories we are forced to carry as we move forward. While combating the dark things inside us will never leave us unmarked, the battle is worthwhile and the resulting wounds can serve either to strengthen or weaken the armor we cultivate throughout our lives. Rather than viewing our personal demons as enemies, Grace views them as difficult aspects of our selves that, once confronted and understood, can be utilized for good. With each difficult experience, our armor grows and we become the warriors of our own worlds.

DESTINESIA Group Exhibition at Stephen Romano Gallery Curated by DH Dowling

Brooke Shaden, Petals From My Roots, 2015

There is a realm that is known to artists. It is a realm where night is luminous. Where forgetting is powerful. A place where all must lose their way —
Destiny + Amnesia = DESTINESIA .

We lose ourselves to find ourselves.

We peer through a lens; commit brush to canvas; juxtapose images--here the work is fierce and exuberant. We extend the boundaries of self. We stare down oblivion.

Linnea Strid, Where Dreams Go to Sleep, 2016

Destinesia is a hypnagogic state, bordering on sleep, rich in theta waves, where dreams and reality mix. Here, we make contact with the creative spirit and converse with the elusive muse. Here, we find the courage to create.

Destinesia is the realm of daydreams. Here, we let go. Shatter the routine. Question. Spark. Illuminate. Answer. Here, we have epiphanies. Lose our self-consciousness. Risk it all. Here, everything breaks apart and snaps together. Here, we delve in the dark. Here, we light-up like neon. Here, we are in love with anarchy. Here, we are free.

In Destinesia, we forget to remember. What is created lives forever. The mystery is deepened.

Art makes us see.

Jeremy Hush "AN EXCHANGING GLANCE" at Last Rites Gallery

"An Exchanging Glance", Jeremy Hush's solo exhibition opens November 21, 2015 at Last Rites Gallery in NYC. The title of the show has been conceived to draw attention to the exchange of ownership between human beings and the natural world. “An Exchanging Glance” refers to one of the main pieces that will be featured in the exhibition: in this work the empty eye sockets of a human skull are juxtaposed to the serious stare of a Bateleur eagle as a reminder of our responsibility towards the other inhabitants of the planet. Jeremy Hush explains: “The new series I’ve been working on specifically for this exhibition is the representation of a bustling microcosm that teems with life and is characterized by an incurable obsession for details.” The solo show will be pivoted on the everlasting visceral connection that exists between men and wild life and that, in Hush’s work, seems to imply the necessity of an exchange of roles and definitions. The work of Jeremy Hush is focused on portraying strong characters caught in a moment of apparent weakness and self- exploration through a conscious interaction with the natural environment. In Hush’s work, animals and plants are almost human because their emotions have been emphasized in virtue of their psychological and anthropomorphic qualities. An Exchanging Glance is an invitation to open our eyes and change our perspective over the natural world. The exhibition will include a selection of paintings and a massive installation comprised of five wooden rosette arches.

"MAGICA SEXUALIS" Group Exhibition at Stephen Romano Gallery

Rik Garrett

Stephen Romano Gallery is pleased to announce the next group exhibition following in the series of “In Missa Interfectionis”, “Opus Hypnagogia” (at Morbid Anatomy Museum) and the inaugural exhibition at Stephen Romano Gallery’s new Bushwick location “Lexicon Infernali”, all of which examine the interaction of the esoteric, vernacular, visionary, outsider, vintage and contemporary art practices. “Magica Sexualis” is the title of a book from 1934 which fascinates as a power object, and the work presented will examine sexual energy manifest through magic practice, or the reverse, magic energy manifest through sexual themes.

Sexual magic refers to an ancient science that has been known and protected by the purest, most spiritually advanced human beings, whose purpose and goal is the harnessing and perfection of our sexual forces. A more accurate translation of sexual magic would be “sexual priesthood.” In ancient times, the priest was always accompanied by a priestess, for they represent the divine forces at the base of all creation: the masculine and feminine, the Yab-Yum, Ying-Yang, Father Mother: the Elohim.

Sex magic (sex magick) is any type of sexual activity used in magical, ritualistic or otherwise religious and spiritual pursuits. One practice of sex magic is using the energy of sexual arousal or orgasm with visualization of a desired result. A premise of sex magic is the concept that sexual energy is a potent force that can be harnessed to transcend one’s normally perceived reality.
